After watching an old episode of Ghost Hunters last night (from season 1), I realized how much I miss the old days when the TAPS team was still hungry for paranormal knowledge and advancement of the field. While I’m sure life is much better financially for the TAPS team and those involved in the show’s production, some of us are left with an emptiness after watching the new episodes. Here’s what I mean.
Disclaimer: This is not to be mistaken as reporting proven facts, the following is just me calling it like I (and many others) see it.
Old TAPS:
- Used to book their own cases. They used to actually take calls from people in need of their expertise (if it can be called that), and they were eager to try and break away from their jobs to go and learn, help and gain more experiences.
- Used to focus on helping everyday people.
- Used to spend time before going dark, trying with sincerity, to debunk or find other possible causes of reported paranormal phenomena.
- Used to analyze their own evidence.
- Used to turn up believable evidence.
New TAPS:
- Has most of their “cases” booked for them by the TV production company. They probably have far less input on when and where they travel due to production scheduling and other business relations (endorsements, etc…)
- Now investigates mostly commercial facilities which are either needing a PR boost for various reasons or stand to gain financially from a declared haunting.
- Spend less time debunking and more time actively looking for and declaring hauntings.
- Probably only spend 10-20 minutes (that’s a guess on my part) actually reviewing their evidence for filming. The majority is probably done for them by production staff or something.
- Now turns up evidence that sometimes is so grandiose, they have lost some credibility (collargate, hangergate, tablegate etc…)
Just to reiterate, I have no proof of these statements. They are my observations. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to reach these conclusions however. Just pick up a season 1 DVD and a season 5 DVD and you’ll quickly see what I mean. I want my old TAPS back!

I haven’t heard anything since season finalle episode 8.I tried to find something in the internet but doesn’t say when they will be back.

thanks. now i’m curious. i added all available seasons of ghost hunters on my netflix. i’ll be sure to checking that out.
